The brief
This illustrative study takes the most common lake-country remodel: a beloved mid-century cabin with an unbeatable location, uninsulated walls, a crawlspace that freezes and a floor plan built for a different era.
The goal is a home that works in February without erasing what makes it feel like the cabin. Nothing about the footprint expands; everything about the envelope, mechanical systems and circulation improves.
What the project has to solve
An envelope built for July
Original wall assemblies offered almost no thermal value. The concept re-insulates and air-seals from the exterior where siding is being replaced anyway, keeping interior wood finishes intact instead of gutting rooms to reach the studs.
A crawlspace that never had a chance
Uninsulated rim joists and exposed plumbing are the two reasons cabins burst pipes. Sealing and insulating the crawlspace, then rerouting supply lines to the interior, does more for winter reliability than any single upgrade inside.
Floor heights that never agreed
Three additions across four decades produced three floor levels. Correcting subfloor framing to a single plane is unglamorous, invisible work that quietly makes the finished cabin feel deliberate.
Social proof
Real client reviews
Unlike the study above, these are actual reviews from Destiny Home Construction clients.
Just finished my 3 Season Room. Such a detailed carpenter and took the time to give suggestions that made the room so much more than I ever imagined. The tiled floors are marvelous! Such a great experience!
Really cooperative, love their enthusiasm towards the job. 10/10
